I am so proud of my husband. First place in an extremely important sand building contest. The winnings were meager - 10% of the vote proceeds, which amounted to $17, and a $25 Walmart giftcard - but the satisfaction was huge.
Team Cadillac Eldorado took first place in the Delray Beach Fourth of July sand sculpture contest. Yes, my husband began at 7:00 am on Sunday morning, July 4th. The team hit the beach early, with the right equipment. We've done this before: shovels, industrial water sprayers, sun gear, a plan and a section of cheerleading kids.
Our sandy Cadillac was the champion! Mayor Nelson S. "Woodie" McDuffie climbed in for a spin.
It is incredibly satisfying when hard work and fun are a winning combination.
As an avid marketer, my husband knew that to win you have to stand out. While everyone else was building mermaids, castles and seahorses, who has ever seen a sand sculpture of a Cadillac El Dorado? Let alone the ability to actually sit in it and take a test drive? So the message here is when you have an opportunity, dare to be different, just a little.
