Holy sensei! FAO Schwarz has brought back Monchichi

Get ready kids and campers for an “I Love the 80’s” flashback. When I was a little girl, I was obsessed. Not with Scott Baio from Charles in Charge, not with Ralph Macchio from The Karate Kid (That’s a lie. I proudly owned the Karate Kid headband and did attempt to perform that crazy flying kick when Julie Pickler tried to make me eat sand…it didn’t turn out well). I wasn’t even obsessed with Cabbage Patch Kids. In fact, I thought they beared too much of a resemblance to the Quaker Oats guy, only with ugly, unmanageable yarn hair. No, my obsession dear friends was with Monchichi.

You remember the song, don’t you? Monchhichi, Monchhichi, oh so cute and cuddly, With his thumb in his mouth he’s really sweet, it’s fun to play with their little feet, la la la! La la la! Happy, happy Monchichi! I love you Monchichi!

DID YOU KNOW? A Monchichi onced saved a three year old boy’s life. While Bobby Pete Farqwar of Duluth Minnesota was playing happily in his front yard, an unfriendly neighborhood pit bull lunged at him out of nowhere. In an instant Bobby shoved a Monchichi in the angry mutt’s mouth. The pit bull ran away, leaving Bobby Pete alive…but Monchichi-less… Lesson to parents? Buy a Monchichi, save a child’s life.

Ring a bell? If not, I feel like a total dork and a half. If so, take a look at this adorable Japanese classic 8″ Monchhichi boy doll who gives a shout out to The Karate Kid dressed in traditional Cobra Kai garb. You’ll feel like you’re a kid again with that plush little monkey body and vinyl face, hands, and feet. Here are some more specs on my beloved Monchichi children’s toys from FAO Schwarz:
