Icy cool chairs and contemporary living room furniture pieces that are icy hot
I don’t like to put my fanny just anywhere. I’m very selective when it comes to chairs, especially if they’re featured in my living room. They have to be comfortable, they have to match my decor, and they have to make a statement. Hee Welling’s collection of Cool Chairs from Design Within Reach are anything but ordinary. Why? They’re made from a major kitchen appliance.
From the innovative design mind of Hee Welling comes a truly one of a kind chair. What makes this chair cooler than the rest? Inspiration can come from anywhere, and in the case of Hee, his inspiration came from the interior of a refrigerator. Don’t laugh, (even though the designer’s name practically beckons you to) I’m serious. This chair is totally constructed from the shelves sitting inside of a refrigerator. How’s that for innovation? It’s like a Project Runway challenge, but for furniture instead of clothes.
DID YOU KNOW? Archie Bunker’s famous easy chair from the television series “All in the Family” is stored at the Smithsonian Institute. Producer Norman Lear donated it when he thought the show wouldn’t see another season. When the show was renewed for a ninth season, Lear had to spend thousands of dollars to have a replica created. The original chair was purchased from Goodwill for $8. It was donated by some Meathead.
Industrial designer Welling’s goal was to craft a chair using only one material. With only some powder coating added for a durable finish - this Hee Lounge chair is suitable for indoor or outdoor use, but I personally think it’s much too cool to sit outside. Featuring a surprisingly soft seat, and a bold yellow color that will make your living room pop, get ready to impress your guests whenever they sit on it.
-Made of solid steel with a durable powder coat finish
