Chip Off the Old Craft Block

craft blocks

Craft blocks – KraftyBlok glass blocks for endless crafting possibilities

I’m crafty.

Allow me to clarify. I am not by any stretch of the imagination considered a deceitful, underhanded, cunning or sly person.  I am crafty in the literal arts and crafts sense of the word. I paint, I Photoshop, I stencil, I sew, I quilt. If you can think it, I can craft it.

I didn’t score my Creative Director title for being anti-crafty.

I’ve been working diligently on my granddaughter’s quilt that will be completed any day now, so I’ll need a new crafting project to keep my idle hands busy. Thankfully, I just found a new crafting wonder that will keep me occupied for hours on end – the KraftyBlok craft block from Delphi Glass.

Come on baby light my camp fire

camping fire starter

Camping fire starter gets your camp fire started in seconds

I’m a survivor.

When I go camping, I camp kick it back old school. Most campers would consider me a camping purist. I don’t believe in smuggling in luxury items like electronic devices, cushy bedding or toilet paper, and who needs matches or lighters?! I am man, I make fire!

When enjoying the great outdoors I rely on three simple things…

1. My survival instincts.

2. A handful of soft leaves.

3. This Camp Fire Starter from Big Edge Camping & Hiking.

This Light My Fire Maya Dust Fire starter helps you light camp fires with ease no matter what the weather conditions are. Even Charlie McGee (Drew Barrymore’s character in “Firestarter”) would be jealous. Read the rest of this entry »

The Horse Drawer

draw horses book

Draw horses book brings out your inner horse artist

Before I had dreams of becoming a professional published writer, my stall was filled with other big dreams. When I was a little girl, the creative artist in me used to flip through to the last page in every comic book or magazine that featured those odd You Can Do It drawing contests. Remember those? They were my one-way ticket to fame. All I had to do was capture the essence of that one turtle and/or pirate pictured, and I would astound the judges. They would drop their paintbrushes, recognize my artistic gift and a career in the art world would be mine.

I never won any of those contests and have since given up on drawing turtles and pirates both, but they were never my favorite subject anyway. My passion was always drawing horses, and now I can with this Anyone Can Draw Horses book from Back in the Saddle.

As a matter of artifact

lion skull

Lion skull is thicker than human skulls, sometimes

A few months or so ago I woke up to the sounds of my daughter screaming bloody murder outside. I ran out to see who was removing her limbs with a chainsaw and found a massacred duck on our back patio. Now there have been recent bear spottings in our city, so she was more than a little alarmed… and a little green.  I’m a bit of a prankster, so I realized this was a perfect opportunity to scare the living bejeezies out of her.

I picked up a buffalo cranium, a lion skull and a few other cool animal artifacts from the Museum Store Company to set the scene. Tonight, the bear will strike again.

Elementar-tea my dear Watson

The tea pot did it in the billiard room… or was it the kettle in the library

Some people call me Amy, but those who know me to a tea (sorry, tee) call me Sherlock, Super Sleuth Extraordinaire. When I’m not working my day job at Catalogs.com, I would do Sir Arthur Conan Doyle proud, solving various neighborhood crimes and mysteries. I don’t like to brag, but most recently I single-handedly nabbed the culprit who stole my garbage can. The proper authorities were contacted immediately.

Once the crime solving is finished and the mysteries are solved, I like to come home, take off my trench coat, smoke a pipe and use this Japanese Tea Pot from Todd & Holland Tea Merchants to brew the finest Earl Grey tea… just as my dear predecessor Sherlock Holmes would have done.

Diecast biker dude

Enjoy the safest Harley ride ever with this diecast motorcycle replica

There isn’t anything more exhilarating than the freedom of the open road. The wind through your hair, the hot rubber on the pavement… the tight leather biker chaps. Truth – I’ve never actually been on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. I’ve dreamed about it, but I’m scared I’ll crash and die a horrible Harley related death. That or I’ll lose some teeth and have to go to the dentist to have my mouth X-rayed. I have a terrible gag reflex.

How cool is it that I can enjoy a Harley Davdison and all it’s amazing features minus the fear factor with this Harley Diecast Motorcycle replica from The Fairfield Mint?

Trick or ear treat

Halloween bead crafts for frighteningly fun fashions!

There’s no doubt about it, I’m into jewelry. If you’re talking bling, I’m all ears. Unfortunately for my daughters’ future husbands, they inherited my love for all things that go bling in the night as well.

During these tough economic times, I may not be able to bling my girls with carats, but I can bling them with cats thanks to this Glass Earring Bead Crafts Kit from Oriental Trading Company’s Sensational Beads.

It ain’t Rocket Science

dune hardcover book

They blinded me with the Science Fiction Book Club

A co-worker just asked me what my favorite Science Fiction novel was. I said Dune by Frank Herbert, of course. Then I got to thinking…It’s been awhile, my favorite sci fi book certainly deserves a re-read. So I picked up a brand spanking new copy at the Science Fiction Book Club. Better yet, I have more of sci fi fantasy’s best coming every month! Read the rest of this entry »

Run don’t walk to get this Personal Trainer

I thought I’d take up running this summer. What felt like an Olympic mile run was actually more like a 50 yard dash. Not only can I keep accurate measures of my distance with his Garmin Forerunner Personal Trainer from Brigade QM, but I can feel like I have my own personal Drill Sargeant, pushing me to the next level…without all that boot camp abuse.
