Figuring out what to put on your desk will help you work efficiently

When you are setting up your office, there are a couple of different ways you can go to get the most efficiency out of the way you arrange your desktop. You want to make sure that what you have in one spot or another is stuff that you will be able to find later on. You want to make sure that should you need to find a file or a note or a meeting time you will be able to do it in the blink of an eye.

There is nothing worse than not knowing where you have stuff that you need when you need it. The best way to go about having an office where you can find everything you need is to have a desk that is set up to give you everything you want within arms length.

Knowing what to put on your desk can be a bit of a tricky thing. Obviously there are a few things that everyone has on their desk or that most people expect to find on their desk. There are some things that you should put on your desk that you might not guess — but will sound like a no-brainer when I bring it up.

A desk pad calendar is one thing that can come in very handy when you are organizing your desk. While most people take a calendar or planner with them, it can be very helpful to have one of these as a backup. These are generally pretty large so that you can make all kinds of notes on a day and have that information at a glance. You can even use these to have different pieces of information than you would put in your official calendar or planner. This also gives you the entire month spread out before you quickly and easily.

When talking about using your desk and what you should have on it, there is always going to be a bit of a problem when it comes to space. Even those who have huge desks are going to find from time to time that they don’t have enough room. This is where a desktop riser can be extremely helpful. The riser is a space saver that, depending on what kind you go with, can even allow you to mount your computer monitor with space you can use to put the keyboard and/or mouse underneath when you are done using them.

The best risers will also have enough space to put other items on top of them. The best of the best might even have drawers or storage slots that you can put all sorts of different office supplies in. This gives you extra storage space because you will be able to store things under the riser, thereby giving you more work space.

It may seem rather funny to have to point this out, but one item that should be on every single desk in every single office is some sort of a pen or pencil holder. This might seem like somewhat obvious, but many people rely on just having a pen at hand when they need it and might leave them all over the office. Having a pen cup or something along those lines means that your pen or pencil is indeed within arms length. There is nothing that is more annoying than when you have the need for a pen and can’t find one.

Among other items you should have is some sort of message pad. You can use these to either jot down notes to yourself or to other people who you work with. Much like everything else on this list, having this kind of a pad will come in very handy over the course of your work day.
