January is that time of year where most people wish to de-stress from the hectic holidays but also embark on new resolutions and endeavours.
Although you may wish to hunker down and hibernate for the winter, there are plenty of activities and fun past-times to take up to keep you active, happy and healthy.
Try one of the following top ten activities for January to add variety to you and your families’ own routines.
10. Downhill skiing
Downhill skiing is one of the most exhilarating activities for January. Whether you are experienced or a beginner, try hitting the slopes for a variety of ski runs and maybe even lessons to get you started.
9. Cross-country skiing
Downhill isn’t the only way to get around on skis. Rather, cross-country skiing is a great athletic alternative activity to start in January to help you work up a sweat.
Snowboarding has increased in popularity over the last few decades, so much so that many prefer it to skiing. Seek out the assistance of an instructor if you’re a beginner and make sure you get the proper snowboard gear.
Snow-shoeing is not just an activity that was done in the past by our forefathers. Rather, this January activity will get your heart pumping and help you move across a snowy trail faster than boots.
Put on a pair of ice-skates and hit the local rink, outdoors or indoors, for a fun time. Skating is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening with family and friends as well.
5. Take a trip
Yes, why not take a vacation during the month of January! It’s the perfect time to escape the cold weather and relax from the mad rush of the Holiday season.
4. Plan a trip
If you can’t actually take a trip during January, start planning for a spring trip when flight costs and all-inclusive deals are plentiful. Research cruise specials websites and other deals in travel. Book an appointment with a travel agent and do some research online and at your library to get inspiration.
Sledding is a fun winter activity to start in January when hills are packed with snow and waiting for you! Gather the family and some friends for a day of tobogganing or snow-tubing followed by hot chocolate and treats.
Become a kid again by riding on a four-wheeler and taking a fun ride around safe trails. Be sure to wear a helmet for safety.
It may not the most exciting winter activity, but January is sure to mark the beginning of snowfall season. Keep a shovel handy and gather the kids together to divide the work. Shoveling is also a great exercise for toning the arms and burns extra calories!
