This 2002 film about college life on a Georgia university campus boasted a feel-good story and an awesome soundtrack. I call it band geek makes good, with a beat.

9. Mona Lisa Smile

In the 1950’s most girls attending college saw their future in terms of teaching, nursing or marriage, with latter as the goal

This 2003 Julia Roberts film is about a college art teacher who tries to break down those barriers and offer her students a bigger future – a modern film with a classic look.

8. The Paper Chase

Harvard Law School was the setting for this 1973 film about the rigors of studying law, and the complications of dating your professor’s daughter.

Apparently the glimpse into Harvard Law was attractive to viewers, because the school recorded a big increase in applications following the film’s release.

7. The Social Network

A recent addition to the genre of college life films, this 2010 movie shows how Facebook began in a college dorm room, and took over the world of online communication.

Unlike The Paper Chase, another Harvard University film, this one focuses on the incredible creativity that goes on outside the classroom.

6. Stealing Harvard

Anyone who has ever contemplated the cost of an Ivy League education will appreciate this sometimes funny, sometimes sad look at a man who resorts to a life of crime to fund his niece’s Harvard education.

The moral of this 2002 film? Never promise to pay for anything until you see the price tag.

5. Love Story

Grab the tissues and pop in this classic 1970 college life film of love between the privileged Harvard student and the proud scholarship student.

Before the final scene, brew up some hot cocoa for a sip-along experience as the movie moves into its tearful conclusion.

4. Where the Boys Are

The movie that launched spring break in Fort Lauderdale, this 1960 slice of college life was an instant classic with viewers of all ages, despite its intended teen audience target.

As a somewhat cynical native Floridian, I also think that the movie shows what happens when you let Midwesterners visit the Sunshine State and take a stroll down A1A. .

3. Good Will Hunting

A twist on the classic college life films, this movie warned students and professors alike that the smartest person on campus might well be the janitor. Socio-economic class barriers meets Mensa.

2. National Lampoon’s Animal House

More than 30 years after this film’s release, the chant “Toga, Toga, Toga” immediately calls up images of John Belushi and friends in the most degenerate fraternity on campus.

As an unintended effect, this 1978 film became the standard by which all college fraternities since have measured their success in debauchery.

1. Legally Blond

In yet another Harvard film, Reece Witherspoon proves that not only do blondes have more fun, they’re also smarter than their brunet college classmates.
