For decades, Atlanta has epitomized the elegance of the South.
After the War Between the States (something Yankees call the “Civil” War) Atlanta literally rose from the ashes.
Today Atlanta is a center of culture, big business and of course, shopping!
If your travels are taking you to Atlanta, or if you’re new to the city, here’s a list of the ten best places to shop in Atlanta. Now go out and make the spirit of Scarlett O’Hara proud!
10. Amsterdam Walk
Head to midtown Atlanta for a unique shopping experience at Amsterdam Walk. This city area offers a unique mix of shops and restaurants including fashion boutiques, exciting home decor choices, beautiful jewelry, fine antiques and fun kitchen accessories.
With over 40 shops and a great selection of restaurants, Atlantic Station is one of the local favorites for a day of shopping and dining. Pick up a new outfit at the Eclectic Gal Vintage Boutique, grab a snack at Moe’s, work out at the spa, then catch a movie after a relaxing hour at Starbucks. You can even get your car detailed while you shop!
If you know anyone who can get you into the Merchandise Mart as a guest, RUN, do not walk to join them as soon as possible. Savvy apparel shoppers who wear sizes 0-8 can score major savings on top designer fashions during the apparel sample sales.
Rumor has it that there are also some “Open to the Public” days, but apparently these are kept pretty hush-hush. If you live in Atlanta, do your best to find out when they are, then plan to be there when the doors open! Things will go super-fast!
If you love to look for deals, and don’t mind sorting out the REAL outlets from the “just a cheaper version” stores, Discover Mills is the place to shop. Located in nearby Lawrenceville, this huge mall includes over 180 stores, with all your favorite name brands. Not for the faint of heart (or feet!), the Discover Mall is a travel destination for bargain-hungry shoppers.
No shopping trip to Atlanta would be complete without a stop at Underground Atlanta. Created in the 1920′s when the streets were raised for better traffic flow, this six block area on Atlanta’s original streets is the place to find one of a kind shops and restaurants mixed with unique touches like fortune tellers and live music.
5. 180 Peachtree Retail
Get the downtown feel and browse through an exciting collection of merchants at 180 Peachtree and the surrounding blocks. Local developers are working hard to expand the selection, and are bringing in new shops and restaurants all the time. Perfect for an afternoon stroll before a night on the town.
Explore seven unique “villages” filled with one-of-kind shops, amazing restaurants and live entertainment all set among 1900′s buildings and lush greenery. Virginia Highlands is the place to go for a day out with friends, a beautiful way to experience Atlanta as a visitor, or just a first-class shopping and dining experience.
Shop more than 100 of your favorite stores in one beautiful location at Camp Creek Marketplace. Grab a new book at Barnes and Noble, a snack at one of the many cafes and then relax by the fountains. This is the place where neighbors meet neighbors and ordinary shopping becomes something special.
2. Lenox Square
Are you ready for some marathon shopping? Put on your walking shoes and head out to Lenox Square Mall, home to over 250 of your favorite department stores, shops and small retailers. Find the perfect dress for that big event at Neiman Marcus, grab some new jeans at Hollister, then top it all off with some new shoes in your favorite brands like Nine West, UGG or Dr. Martens.
Lunch, dinner or just a snack are no problem here…food court-style stands and full-service restaurants are everywhere!
Vining’s Village defines itself as “A collection of fashionable boutiques, exciting restaurants and one-of-a-kind specialty stores nestled in the lush and historic Vinings Village just minutes away from Downtown Atlanta.” And while that may be an accurate description, it doesn’t do justice to the elegant, peaceful setting in one of the best places to shop in Atlanta.
And with the addition of the new Tower Stage, this delightful shopping area will become even more of a destination for locals and visitors alike.
