Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.

Put the flour, salt and baking soda into a small bowl. Beat the granulated sugar, vanilla extract, butter and brown sugar in another bowl until creamy. Add the first egg and beat well. Add the second egg. Beat some more. Beat in the flour mixture (which is in the small bowl) very gradually. Stir in the nuts and chocolate chip morsels.

Get a tablespoon and scoop up the cookie dough. Drop it onto a baking sheet that is ungreased. Continue doing this until you have used all the cookie dough.

Put the cookie sheet into the oven. Bake for nine to 11 minutes. The cookies should end up golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool for two minutes before removing them from the cookie sheet and placing them on a wire rack where they should remain until they are totally cooled.

Try out something different: Chocolate chip cookies with mint.

You will need a package of Nestle mint chocolate morsels, along with 2 cups and two tablespoons of flour; 1/2 cup of butter; six tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar; six tablespoons of sugar; one egg and 1/2 cup of chopped pecans.

Add the butter, vanilla and both the brown and white sugar and beat until creamy. Add in the egg and beat. Gradually add flour to the mixture. Stir in the nuts and chips. Drop the mixture by tablespoons onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for nine to 11 minutes at 350 degrees.

The mint adds a delightfully surprising taste to these chocolate chip cookies.

Here is a twist on the chocolate chip cookie. Give it a Hawaiian flair.

You will need 1 cup of coconut that has been shredded; 1 cup macadamia nuts that you must chop coarsely; 2 cups of Quick oats; 1 cup of shortening; 3/4 cup sugar and 3/4 cup brown sugar; 1 1/2 cup of flour; 1 teaspoon vanilla extract; 1 teaspoon each of baking soda and baking powder; 1/8 teaspoon salt and 1 cup of chocolate chunks or chips.

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees and then blend the shortening and sugars with an electric mixer. The mixture should be fluffy and light. Add the vanilla and egg and beat well. Sift together the baking soda and powder, salt and flower and mix the flour mixture in with the creamed mixture. Add nuts, chips, coconut and oats. Create 1 1/2 inch balls with the mixture and place the balls on an ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten the ball using the bottom of a glass that has been dipped into flour.

Bake for 14 to 16 minutes until your Hawaiian Chocolate Chip Cookies are lightly browned.
