Some ideas for great things to do with your dog that you will enjoy too

Dogs are man's best friend, right?  Dogs love attention and, not surprisingly, dogs who get more attention from their masters have better behavior.  And better behavior makes a much happier owner.  So what are some great things that you and your four-legged friend can do together?  Have you run out of ideas past the casual walk?  Look no further!  Here are some great things to do with your dog which will not only be fun for your dog, but fun for you, too.

Go for a hike:

This isn't your average walk around the block.  Find a scenic hiking area somewhere near your home.  This hike could last a few hours, or all day--it's completely up to you.  This will not only give your dog a good chance to stretch his legs and go for a run, but it will also give him several hours of quality time with his favorite person--you.

Before you go for a hike, make sure that you pack plenty of supplies for not only you, but also your dog.  Choose the right kind of collar, harness and leash for your dog's size and energy level. Make sure that you have separate water and some sort of drinking bowl for your dog to stay hydrated.  You might be far from the nearest water source, so come prepared.  Also make sure that you are familiar with the area where you plan to go hiking, there might be specific rules for bringing your dog along.

Take a stroll in the park:

Don't just take your dog to any park, take him to a dog park.  Dog parks are great places for your dog to socialize with other dogs.  This is important especially if you only own one dog.  Playing with people can be good fun, but dogs need time around other dogs.  It's not only fun for them to chase and sniff their friends, but this activity can also make him friendlier.  A dog who hasn't been socialized can be quite aggressive towards others.  The more he is around other dogs, the more comfortable and friendlier he can get.

Make some new friends:

If you'd like to do something less active with your dog, consider taking him on visits.  You can use your dog to cheer up people who don't often receive visitors, such as a senior citizens' home.  The person you visit will not only love seeing your dog, but your dog will adore the extra attention.  This can give you some time to get to know other people as well.

Doing some community service like this is pretty easy, just make sure you contact the place you wish to visit and they should be more than happy to let you visit.

Spending more time together with your dog and branching out for new activities will bring the two of you closer together and leave the both of you happier.  There are many things that you can do with your dog--just check in with places in your community and see what they have to offer.  Your dog will certainly thank you for it.
