Getting There

First, it is important to consider your transportation. If you are traveling a long way or with lots of people, it is important to make sure that your vehicle is equipped for your needs.

If your car is a bit on the older side, perhaps you should take it in to the local shop for a diagnostic (these usually cost less than fifty bucks). If you are traveling with more than four people, it would probably be wise to consider obtaining (either by borrowing or renting) a larger vehicle such as a min- van or an SUV. It is also a good idea to calculate the cost of gas and check with the venue’s website to ensure that the parking situation will be able to accommodate your vehicle.

Taking an Uber or Lyft is a great option, or figuring out how to arrive by public transportation. Just plan for both waits and crowds. You might not get on the first train that stops after the show.

Planning for Weather

Next, you should consider what the weather conditions will be for that day as well as how the venue is equipped to accommodate less than ideal conditions.

For example, if you are going to an outdoor concert it is a good idea to bring a poncho (often, outdoor concerts do not stop due to rain unless lightning strikes are likely). Even if you are attending a concert in an indoor venue it is a good idea to bring an umbrella as sometimes you will be forced to park far away from the entrance. If you have a pair of galoshes it is a good idea to pack them in your trunk, sometimes parking lots flood in bad weather.

Also wear comfortable clothes! The last thing you want is to be stuck smack in the middle of a standing room only concert wearing a pair of spike heeled boots. Concerts are a good time to don a nice pair of track pants, wear a breathable and/or ventilated shirt, and comfortable shoes.

Take Care of Yourself

Most importantly, hydrate! A concert experience can take up to 5 hours depending on where the concert venue is.

Add in dancing, sweating, and potential drinking and you’re easily at risk for dehydration. It’s all too common for people to pass out at concerts from lack of water, so bring your water or be prepared to buy expensive venue water bottles!

This guide to How to Have the Best Concert Experience has proven helpful. Concerts can be a great way to bond with your family and friends and really, it only takes a little bit of planning to make a concert excursion go well.

Just remember to consider your transportation, the weather, and to dress comfortably!
