It is down to the wire, and you are almost packed for your big getaway.

You’ve got your clothes, your mp3 player for the road (or flight), a map of your destination, a few paperback novels you’ve been meaning to get to, toiletries, and maybe even your passport. Now it’s time to decide on your shoes.

10. Casual Flats

Casual Flats

Casual flats are your wear anywhere shoes, and you really can’t leave home without them. These will be your trusty default shoes when you don’t know what else to wear (or you don’t want to bother trying to figure it out).

9. Hiking Shoes

Hiking Shoes

If your travels include hitting the trails, then make sure you pack the right hiking shoes. Do not compromise on this one. Your back, knees, and feet will thank you for it later.

8. Something Dressy

Something Dressy

Vacations mean time to relax and take it easy, but that doesn’t mean you won’t want to dress up at some point. Some nice shoes to go with your out-to-dinner outfit are a definite must. You don’t want to get an invite for a night on the town, only to find you’ve only packed your sneakers, do you?

7. Something Designer

Something Designer

There are some vacations which call for donning something absolutely posh. If you’re hitting Rodeo Drive or hobnobbing with society’s upper crust, now is the time to splurge on some designer shoes. Treat yourself. Trips like these don’t happen every day.

6. Spa Shoes

Spa Shoes

If your upcoming itinerary includes some very well deserved spa time, you’ll want to come prepared with your own spa shoes. Lightweight but amazingly durable, spa shoes don’t flinch at getting a little wet, they dry out quickly, and typically have non-slip soles to keep you from having any embarrassing (and painful) spills on the resort floor.

5. Muck Boots

Muck Boots

There’s vacationing, and then there’s roughing it; and maybe you have plans to do a little of both. Visiting a bison ranch, or going mudding with your crazy cousins? What you need are muck boots. Rugged and waterproof, these babies are made to get dirty.

4. Sandals

It almost isn’t a vacation if you don’t get some sand between your toes, and it would be a shame to leave behind that most classic of summertime footwear, the humble yet oh so practical sandal. Men and women, let those tootsies breathe. It’s hot outside!

3. Ankle Boots

These classy little numbers are a great option to jazz up your “away” wardrobe. Ankle boots are fun and ride that line between dressy and casual like the little pros they are. Stash a black pair and a brown in the suitcase, so you’ll have something that truly goes with anything.

2. GOOD Walking Shoes

GOOD Walking Shoes

For all the relaxing you intend on doing, keep in mind that a lot of vacations include a fair bit of walking. Do yourself a favor and pack a good pair of true walking shoes to keep your dogs relatively pain free, no matter how many miles they tread.

1. Comfy Slippers

Comfy Slippers

Okay, now for some real relaxation. You are on your way to recharge your batteries, let it all go, and be comfy. Pack your slippers. Nothing says, “I am here to unwind” like a pair of fuzzy house shoes on your feet.
