You don’t always have to go to the safe deposit box when traveling and you don’t always take all your valuables with you.
In a pinch here are a few easy, and hard for burglars to find, places to hide small valuables, jewelry and cash.
Burglars look in the jewelry box and in drawers and desks. Remember to leave your jewelry box out with a few cheap trinkets in it. If it is empty the thieves will know you hid your diamonds elsewhere.

10. Nightstand
Rock back your nightstand and place your valuables on the floor under it. Most burglars don’t want to move heavy furniture or work too hard.
9. Frozen hash browns
(Carefully) open a bag of frozen hash browns. Place your loot in a zip lock baggie, place it in the bottom of the hash brown bag and put the remainder of the hash browns back in on top. Seal the bag as if being stored in your freezer.
8. Drywall over your closet door
Walk backwards into your shallow clothes closet and look up. Over the door remove a piece of drywall – 12 inches by 12 inches will do. Place your cash and valuables in a bag and tuck them in this hole. Most thieves might look in your closet but even if they look up they won’t see the hole unless they back into the closet. For added safety remove any light bulb in that closet.
7. Vacuum cleaner bag
Remove your vacuum cleaner bag and stash your bag of loot in the vacuum. Close it back up and leave it right in the pantry or closet. Leave it in the open. Thieves won’t think of disassembling appliances looking for fast cash.
6. Winter coat in cleaners plastic
After your winter coat comes back from the dry cleaners leave the plastic on. Lift the plastic and stuff the pockets with your goodies. Replace the plastic and even leave the cleaners tag on. Hang it right out front in your hall closet.
5. Coffee can
Remove the coffee. Place your zip lock bag in the bottom and cover with coffee. Replace the lid and leave it right on the counter next to the coffee machine.
4. Hollow out an old book
Going back ages, this little trick works well. Hollow out the book and hide it in a large library of many books. The burglars are not likely to open every one. You can also glue stick all the pages together except the middle one so if its moves it wont reveal your stash.
3. In the dog food
Same as the coffee can. Place your baggie in the bottom of the dog food bag. Again, leave it right in the kitchen next to Rover’s bowl.
2. Behind a HVAC register
Two screws open the wall register. Place a shoe box or bag of stuff in the vent and replace the register. Thieves don’t unscrew anything.
1. Under attic insulation

Climb into your attic. Push back a bit of insulation and place your cigar box or baggie under it. Criminals don’t want to leave itching and won’t be found cornered in an attic.
