Holiday Fashion: Best and Easy to Follow Tips for Holiday’s Outfit

By Catalogs Editorial Staff

Here are fashion ideas for the holidays, from sweaters to boots and more

The holidays are just around the corner and there are several trends to be super excited about! Update your wardrobe with these holiday fashion tips.

Don’t Throw Away Your Summer Dresses

Who says flowers aren’t for winter, especially if they are in holiday colors of green, red, and gold? All you have to do is tweak your flowery summer dress for colder weather. Do this by wearing a blazer over the dress, preferably a printed one, like a zig-zag print. The zig-zag will add an exciting twist to the already marvelous flower print. Wear this look with stockings and heeled booties, and you’ve got the perfect look for a day out or even a night at the movies!

Go for the Gold

holiday fashion
The color gold is massive this season! Are you going to a holiday cocktail party? Add a little zing to that little black dress by wearing killer gold heels with it. The heels don’t have to be all gold if the color is too much of a shock for you. Black heels with gold accents work well, too.

If it’s time for a night out, then gold is calling your name. Wear a gold, drapey tank top with a black leather jacket. Wear this look with your favorite boots and jeans.

If it’s daytime and you’re in the mood for less gold, there are still ways to wear the color. You can wear a gold belt, headband, or even gold flats. Even a top where gold isn’t the predominant color is fine. A gold handbag or clutch with any of these looks is wonderful.

The popularity of gold this holiday season goes beyond just wearing it as a jewelry color, so find any excuse to add it into your outfit!

Lace and Leather

This sweet-meets-sexy look is all over runways this season and should be all over you as well! The number of clothes with lace and leather this season are endless and lace is just the thing for a Christmas or New Years’ fete. A lace and leather dress is perfect for a nice evening out. Go for a dress that has lace for the upper back and upper chest and leather for the rest of it. Not sure how to accessorize? More lace and more leather always work!

Another great look is a lace top with a fitted black leather jacket. Don’t worry –  not all lace is completely see-through. There are many shirts that have a semi-sheer or even solid layer of fabric under the lace. However, if you want to see through lace in your top, there are many that come with lace in the upper chest area and/or entire back area. Find your comfort zone and just go with it! A match made in heaven for this look is black leather pants.

If you feel overloaded with leather, you can always replace the leather jacket with a fabric one. Animal lovers don’t have to miss out on this look – faux leather can replace leather in any of these looks.

Velvet

A super hot trend right now, velvet can be found in tops, cardigans, handbags, belts, loafers, and flats. A color that screams the holidays is burgundy, so look for velvet in that color. Velvet can be worn with almost anything; there is no known fashion rule that says it can’t. Just stick to one velvet article of clothing per outfit – you don’t want to go on velvet overload.

Corduroy

holiday fashion
The trendiest way to wear corduroy is to wear corduroy pants. As with velvet, burgundy is a wonderful color to choose for your cords. This look can be worn cozy and dressed down or it can be dressed up a bit. For a cozier look, pair your cords with a basic, fitted t-shirt, an oversized knit sweater, and warm boots, such as UGGs. For a dressier look, add a nice blouse and heeled boots.

Mix Prints, Colors, Textures

Now that you have excellent holiday fashion ideas, you should know that mixing prints, colors, and textures is huge right now! Wear your corduroy pants with velvet loafers. Gold strappy heels will look great with many laces and leather ensembles. Add a velvet clutch to the summer dress and zig-zag blazer. The possibilities are endless!
