Here are some ways to block a phone number

If you are anything like me, you must sometimes wonder, how do I block a phone number? There are many reasons you might want to do so either for incoming or outgoing calls, ranging from general harassment by telemarketers or specified harassment from stalkers and bill collectors. Thanks to improved technology, the question of how do i block a phone number is easily answered. Usually, all that is required is to press a few numbers into the keypad, a call the telephone service provider or a visit to the web site.

In years past telemarketers were notorious for calling at the most inconvenient times possible. Thanks to the National Do Not Call Registry (NDNCR), which is administered by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), almost all of these types of calls can be permanently stopped. Blocking any number from a telemarketer can done free of charge by registering at the NDNCR website or by calling 1-888-382-1222 from the number you wish to block.

There are two ways to blocking an unwanted call from a cell phone. In most cases, the best approach is to simply use a Caller ID service, and not accept messages from those to whom you do not wish to speak. You have two options: you can permanently block your phone number or you can block your number on a call-by-call basis. If that doesn?t work, you might want to consider recycling your cell phone and buying a new one in the hopes that whoever was bothering you will find a new place else to dwell.

How do I block a phone number?

1- Consult your phone company’s website or white page directory

Rules are different for each carrier and one way I can know how do I block a phone number is to speak to a carrier representative.

2-The universal blocking code

?*67? is the universal call-blocking code. Use it before placing a call to prevent your phone number from appearing on a recipient’s caller ID box. You must dial this code every time you wish to have a call blocked.

3-Per-line blocking

Providers offer per line blocking if you wish to have every call from a specific phone number blocked. Fees for this service vary and not every state allows it. To unblock the line and allow the number to show on a receiver’s Caller ID, dial “*82” before calling. Be aware that when you block your number from being displayed, your name as the caller also remains blank on the caller’s display.

4- Blocking calls from private parties

For landline phones, devices known as inbound call blockers allow you to accept calls only from specifically accepted individuals. For a small fee, phone companies will provide call screening or call blocking services. All that needs to be done is to provide the phone company with the number to be blocked. If the blocked caller attempts to ring through, he or she will either receive a busy signal, or be routed to a recorded message stating that calls are not accepted from his number.

5– ID spoofing

With Caller ID spoofing, a different name and number other than the one you are calling from is displayed on the recipient?s phone. Be careful when signing up for this as some of these fake Caller ID services are illegal.

There are many creative ways to learn how do I block a phone number. If all else fails, move to a new address in another city, get a new phone number and start all over again!
