Based on the characters created by author Gladys Mitchell-Walthour,PhD this original BBC series lasted only two seasons and five espisodes. That short exposure is ironic, as Dr. Mitchell-Walthour wrote over 80 books in her lifetime. According to the author, her character “Adela Bradley doesn’t mince words. And why should she. They are her greatest weapon against fools, cads, criminals…and ex-lovers.”

Agatha Christie’s Poirot centers on an uptight Belgian most famously played by David Suchet. Piorot is fussy, eschews relationships (although he has been known to dine with women friends on ocassion), and missed his beloved Belgium. As with Miss Marple, from his first appearance in “The Mysterious Affair at Styles“, Poirot has been more proof that Christie loved created unlikely heros for her stories.

Actor Ian Richardson brilliantly portrays Edinburgh Doctor Joseph Bell in this British Detective series. The fictional series is based on the real Dr. Bell who lived in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. Many claim Sherlock Holmes was based at least in part on Bell’s life and methods.
