St. Simons Island is known for its long and beautiful stretches of beach. It is also said to be one of the best spots in the whole country for beachside saltwater fishing, though boat excursions are available if that’s your preference.

This beach is near Atlanta and well worth the trip if you are in the area. Robin Lake is a pristine freshwater lake that is great for swimming, jet-skiing and fishing. There are also a number of cabins and resorts in the area.

Cabretta Beach is located on Sapelo Island north of Nanny Goat Beach. It also home to Cabretta campground where you could make camp and enjoy both beaches in one trip!

4. John Tanner State Park

John Tanner State Park boasts the largest sand beach of any state park in Georgia. There are also RV and camping facilities as well as a nature trail.

3. Lake Lanier

Lake Lanier is a beautiful freshwater reservoir located in northern Georgia. This is a great spot for those looking to do some boating or jet skiing.

2. Wassaw Island

Wassaw Island is located south of Tybee Island and is favored by many because it is largely undeveloped. It possesses a certain au-naturale charm that many people find irresistible. While visiting Wassaw be sure to check out the Spanish-American War era fort and be aware that it is also a national wildlife refuge so activities such as biking, camping and collecting sea shells are prohibited.

Cumberland Island is located off of the southern coast of Georgia near Florida. It is accessible by ferry and contains two of Georgia’s most popular beaches, both of which are home to wild horses.
