Top 10 Short – Tall Couples

He says tomato and she says to-mah-to.

He says potato and she says po-tah-to. He says “How’s the weather up there?” and she says “Didn’t I see you in my garden wearing a pointed hat?” Couples with one short partner and one tall one stand out in a crowd – OK, at least one does. It’s not that unusual in the basketball world but it seems some tall women like their men close to the rug too.

Here’s my choices for the top ten Short-Tall couples.

10. Jamie Cullum and Sophie Dahl

British jazz/pop singer-songwriter Jamie Cullum is 5 ft. 4 in. His lovely wife, the former model Sophie Dahl, is a very supermodel-sized 5 ft. 11 in. Jamie probably fell for Sophie when he saw her infamous Opium perfume ad where she was dressed in … perfume.

9. Mick Jagger and L’Wren Scott

Mick Jagger stands tall in front of the Rolling Stones, but offstage he’s 5 ft. 10 in. That’s taller than most women and some of his former wives and girlfriends, but his current one. Fashion designer L’Wren Scott is 6 ft. 3 in. and all legs in her famous little black dresses.

8. Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster

Rocker Rod Stewart thinks he’s sexy at 5 ft. 10 in. from his shoes to his shag. His lovely wife, lingerie model Penny Lancaster, probably does too as she peers down at his shaggy mane from her height of 6 ft. 1 in.

7. Rick Fox and Eliza Dushku

Former NBA Lakers star Rick Fox is 6. ft. 7 in. both on and off the court. His girlfriend is actress Eliza Dushku, whose 5 ft. 5 in. height didn’t stop her from slaying a few vampires on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”

6. Wladimir Klitschko and Hayden Panettiere

World heavyweight boxing champ Wladimir Klitschko uses his 6 ft. 6 in. height to pummel opponents in the ring and his good looks got him a two-year relationship with Hayden Panettiere, the diminutive cheerleader from “Heroes” whose 5 ft. 1 in. height saved her from seeing what his nose looked like after a fight.

5. Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher

Whether he’s Ali G, Borat or Brüno, actor Sacha Baron Cohen is always 6 ft. 3 in. tall. His lovely wife, Australian actress Isla Fisher, is never fooled by her husband even though she’s a foot shorter at 5 ft. 3 in.

4. Peter Dinklage and Erica Schmidt

His 4 ft. 5 in. height hasn’t stopped actor Peter Dinklage from starring in numerous films and television roles and winning an Emmy and a Golden Globe. His lovely wife, theater director Erica Schmidt, is 5 ft. 6 in.

3. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith

At 6 ft. 2 in., Will Smith is the fresh prince up in the air when he’s out with his wife, the beautiful actress Jada Pinkett Smith, who stands 5 ft. even.

2. Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni

What is it about height-challenged French leaders? France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy is a Napoleonic 5 ft. 5 in. while his lovely wife, former model Carla Bruni, is a statuesque 5 ft. 10 in.

No list of tall-short couples would be complete without Tom Cruise, the action movie star who’s big on the big screen but only 5 ft. 6 in. on the red carpet. His current wife, actress Katie Holmes, is 5 ft. 9 in., a little closer to Tom’s height that his first wife, actress Nicole Kidman, who wasn’t allowed to wear high heels when she towered over him in flats at 5 ft. 11 in.
