If you’re planning on using a computer, you’ll need to know how to download new programs. New programs allow you to play games, along with a host of other essential and exciting activities.
If you’ve never downloaded a new program before, you might feel intimidated by the process. But you don’t need to. Completing program downloads is quite simple and worth the minimal effort.
Types of Programs
Whether you are installing sophisticated, professional programs or fun programs that are for personal use, you’ll need to do so correctly or you’ll end up with a lot of wasted time and effort. Often, the programs come with directions according to what operating system you are running on. However, if the directions were lost or you didn’t receive them, you can still figure it out.
If your program came with a disc, you’ll need to slide it into your PC or laptop. Once you do, you’ll likely hear the computer start to run, and then a message will pop up on your screen. The message will typically contain a question that asks you if you want to the run the program. If it does, simply press “run” and any options that allow you to proceed with the installation process – the options are typically self-explanatory.
Once you have successfully downloaded the new program, you’ll likely find a new icon on your desktop screen. You’ll also find the new program name will be listed in your “programs” tab. Now you can simply click on the icon or the program name to access the file.
Installation Through a Website
Oftentimes, you’ll find many of the programs you need through websites. Fortunately, downloading these programs is just as easy as installing those that are available on a disc. Simply click on the program you wish to install. Once you do, another message will pop up asking you if you want to run or install the program. Since you do, you’ll press “run” or “yes.”
If there’s an issue with downloading the program, your computer will let you know. Depending on their extensions, some programs require additional software to run. For instance, programs that end with “.zip” need a zip file program in order to work properly. In this case, you’ll need to install the win zip program first. The program you are attempting to install will let you know what else you need in order for the program to function appropriately.
Unfortunately, you can’t always trust a program. Some will attempt to install nasty viruses into your computer. Computer viruses can obtain your personal information and ruin your computer, along with other damage.
Before you install any program, you’ll need to make sure it doesn’t contain these viruses. Your anti-virus software should automatically check that for you. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to check the status of your virus software to ensure it is working properly. The little bit of effort you’ll take to ensure the new program is safe will likely save you lots of time and money if the program did contain a virus. Once you know it’s clean, you can install the new programs.
Once you download new programs, you’ll likely find doing so again is super easy. And if you have any issues doing so, contact the company that makes the program for help.
