Sometimes a gift has to go that extra mile, just like he has. To mark a milestone or say what cannot be said in words. To really gift the guy who has everything.
Here’s my list of totally extravagant experience gift trips that I, or any guy, would absolutely go nuts for. I put them in order from ten to one, (not as a hint, of course) but you can resort this list any way your guy and your purse can handle.
10. Vegas High Roller
Let him be a Vegas High Roller for a long weekend. Treat 3 of his buddies to go along. Private jet to Vegas is a given. With money being no issue, make his reservations in advance at one of the top shelf properties. Penthouse suite fully stocked with a full time maid and butler. Arrange for private treatment — from the spa works to private poker — in his suite. Gamble at the high stakes table with international celebrities. Be back stage after shows and sit the front row everywhere. No waiting in line for anything. Have a private cabana at the pool with select servers at your beck-and-call. Limos to even cross the strip. Have your own photographer follow and catch every fun moment of fun. Or not!
9. Grand Canyon and Colorado River Rafting
Spare no expense on getting the best guide and equipment available. Bring a few friends or couples and take a week long adventure from one end of the Canyon to the other. Plan in day trips to hike, and spend plenty of time taking photos of one of the most picturesque places in the world. The white water will get the thrill seeker in him satisfied.
8. Marlin Fishing
Send him deep sea fishing for record Marlin. Venezuela or Costa Rica is the place. Charter a week long captain and set sail for the world’s hardest fighting game fish. Blue seas and great camaraderie can make this adventure one to share with a few of his buddies. Read the Old Man and the Sea before you leave for this trip.
7. Drive a NASCAR
Richard Petty has outfitted several NASCARs with a passenger seat. Have your guy take a ride or drive himself. The 1/2 mile oval and banked turns allow for a speed in excess of 140 MPH. Training is required and he will be on the track alone. No bumping of drafting in this thrill ride! Enjoy the feel of the track and roar of the engine.
6. Drive a Tank
A Sherman or Panzer? Take your pick. Have him learn how to steer and fire the guns of a real WW II tank. Gear up and crawl inside an active working tank. Sweat and feel the heat of the diesel engines as he drives over rough terrain, crushes trees and cars and attempts to aim and fire the big gun. Enjoy a trip back in history as he becomes one of his Army heroes for a few hours.
BE a Firefighter for a day. Make sure he is at the Firehouse early for his day. He will suit up in real gear. Drive a fire truck with sirens and all. Enter a burning building and experience smoke darkness. Learn to rappel. Carry a “Dead Weight” person down a ladder and learn rescue techniques. A site in Orlando, Florida offers a comprehensive day clinic on the real life experiences that are common place for a Friefighter.
4. Zero Gravity
Give him the experience of ZERO gravity. Not like a space walk, but rather a flight in a plane that changes height and direction in such a fashion that it leaves him weightless. Up and Down maneuvers can leave people weightless for almost 10 seconds. These flights can be arranged at several location with most being in Florida and Russia.
3. Lobster Diving
Dive and Catch his own lobster dinner. No traps… he will have to go get ‘em! Islamorada, Florida offers all he will need to free dive for warm water lobsters. All you need to provide as part of this extravagant gift trip is some coaching and a few tips, a tickle stick to get the lobsters moving backward and a small net to catch them. Make sure he knows that his catch is of legal size and he will meet the limit in no time. What better way to have dinner than a feast that he caught? Maybe he will share, too.
2. Shark Swim
He’s a real guy, he can stand to SWIM with sharks. Cages preferred and the danger ratio is next to zero. Imagine him as Hooper from “Jaws” while great white, a hammerhead, black tips and makos surround him in a feeding frenzy. Scuba experience not necessary — all he needs to know is how to swim and snorkel. Mexico, The Bahamas and South Africa are great shark destinations.
1. Fly a MiG 29
This is the ultimately extravagant gift trip: let him fly in a Russian MiG 29 Fighter Aircraft. Think of the thrill he will get sitting as co-pilot on a real Russian MiG 29 while it does maneuvers over the USSR. Flying at the speed of sound and pulling 4 gs as he climbs to 40,000 feet in 11 seconds. The ultimate thrill ride. Certain Air bases in Russia can be contacted for arrangements.
