Spend the entire day with them
Sure, taking the time to spend an hour lunch with someone is great, but if you really want to make a person happy, make an effort to spend the entire day with him or her. The person will feel very important, as you’ve cancelled pretty much all of your plans (not just an hour’s worth) to be with that person.~
Do something that’s not your cup of tea
Doing something that you’re not partial to that the other person loves is a wonderful idea. It shows that you don’t only care about yourself and that you value the other person’s enjoyment. For example, if you hate football but your friend or significant other loves it more than anything, go to a football game with that person, or at least watch the game at home in its entirety. Wherever you watch it, try not to look miserable and try to take enjoyment in the fact that you’re making the other person happy!
Cook
Probably the quickest way to make someone happy is to cook! Make the person delicious food. Even more importantly, make something the person really likes, whether it’s bar food, filet mignon, or a luscious desert. The person’s stomach will surely thank you!
If cooking isn’t your forte, buy someone delicious goodies, such as cookies with buttercream icing!
Listen
Actively listening will definitely make a person happy, especially if you’re listening to a person’s problems. Ask questions. Don’t just wait for your turn to speak. Show empathy. Nothing says you care more than really listening to a person. After you truly listen to a person, it is likely that a huge weight will be lifted off his or her shoulders, resulting in happiness.
Work out
Working out with a person will be especially helpful towards the path to happiness if he or she doesn’t enjoy exercising too much. Be that workout buddy that pushes and motivates. Exercising releases tons of feel good endorphins in the body; make someone even happier by providing company and helping pass the time.
Buy a gift card/thank you gift
Buying someone a gift card is really great when you’re trying to say you’re sorry. Buy a gift card to the person’s all time favorite shop or restaurant; it will really mean a lot. Just keep in mind that the gift card won’t mean nearly as much if you don’t offer a heartfelt, sincere apology as well.
You can also show appreciation for someone buy getting him or her a thank you gift. Nothing says thank you better than delicious baked goods.
Do a favor
No matter how big or small it is, there’s nothing like doing someone a favor. Take care of a friend’s pet while he or she is on vacation. Go to the supermarket and pick up everything on your mom’s grocery list. Be the one that gives a friend rides when his or her car breaks down. Helping someone during a time in need will always make the person at least a little bit happier.
Be funny
A nice sense of humor can make even the angriest person content, so be funny! When someone you know is feeling down, crack a joke. Just make sure it’s a good one. Also, realize that there are times when you should and should not be a jokester. For example, if someone’s cat just died, don’t go making jokes. It’s as simple as that.
Obviously there are both monetary and non monetary ways to make a person happy. Just note that the monetary ways are usually a temporary fix and the best ways to make a person happy come from the heart, not material things.
