Is it mandatory to give two weeks notice of resignation? If you work in the U.S., the answer depends on whether or not you agreed to do so by contract. You don't have to give two weeks notice of resignation in any form, if you're not working under a contract that says otherwise and you work in a state that upholds the Employment At-Will Doctrine. (Virtually all states do to some degree.) You may just walk out the door if you wish. That's because employment at will essentially means that, under common law and in the absence of a contract to the contrary, employment is presumed to be voluntary and indefinite for both employees and employers.
