Every kid has had a convenience store slushy and remembers the color it turned their tongue and the brain freeze that came with it.
As adults, we still like slushies and fluorescent tongues, but now we know that the cure for brain freeze is to add alcohol to the mix. There are some excellent ready-to-make mixes available for cosmopolitan, mojito, whiskey sour and other slushies. If you have a little extra time, you can also make them yourself with these delicious slushies recipes.
10. Hard Cream Soda Slushy
Place 5 cups crushed ice in a countertop blender. Add 4 oz. light rum, 2 oz. gin, 4 oz. vodka, 5 oz. Canadian whisky, 3 oz. triple sec, 3 oz. grenadine and 1 cup lemonade. Blend until mixed.
9. Fuzzy Navel Slushy
Mix 9 cups water and 1 12 cups white sugar in a freezer bowl until the sugar is completely dissolved. Add 12 oz. frozen orange juice concentrate, 12 oz. frozen lemonade concentrate and 1 pint peach schnapps and stir until mixed. Cover the container and freeze for 4 hours or overnight. To serve, scoop slush mix into a tall glass, add a splash of lemon-lime soda and stir.
8. Tropical Slushy
Combine 1 pint passion fruit sorbet, 1 cup guava juice, 1 cup papaya juice, 1 cup passion fruit rum and 3 cups crushed ice in a blender and blend until smooth.
7. Sparkling Punch Slushy
Mix 1 bottle (750 ml) of your favorite sparkling wine or champagne, 64 oz. of Hawaiian punch drink, 1 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons lemon juice and 12 oz. frozen orange juice concentrate in a freezer bowl and freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight. To serve, fill a glass 2/3 full with the slush and add 7Up. You can also put this in a punch bowl or fancy beverage dispenser and let guests serve themselves.
6. Creamsicle Slushy
Mix 1/2 cup frozen orange juice concentrate, 1/2 cup Cointreau and 3 tablespoons vanilla vodka in cocktail shaker and shake. Place about six cups of ice into a food processor fitted with the grater blade and shave the ice to snow cone consistency. Scoop a cup of shaved ice into a chilled cocktail glass and pour 1/4th of the mixture over it.
5. Kiwi Slushy
Peel 5 kiwis and cut 4 of them into quarters. Put the 4 cut kiwis in a blender with 3 cups of ice, 1/4 cup light rum, 1/4 cup melon-flavored liqueur, 3 tablespoons Cream of Coconut and 1 8-ounce can crushed pineapple in juice (undrained) Blend until smooth. Strain the mix through a sieve into a pitcher and discard the seeds. Divide evenly in six glasses and garnish each with a slice of the last kiwi.
4. Whiskey Sour Slushy
Combine 1 1/2 cups bourbon, 12 oz. frozen orange juice concentrate, 12 oz. frozen lemonade concentrate, 7 1/2 cups water, 1 cup strong brewed tea and 1 cup sugar in a plastic pitcher and place in freezer overnight. To serve, stir the slush to break up the chunks and pour into rocks glasses.
3. Minty Rum and Mango Slushy
Peel and coarsely chop 3 cups of fresh mango. Place mango, 1 cup ice cubes, 1 cup mango nectar, 3/4 cup white rum, 1/4 cup fresh lime juice, 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint in a blender and blend until smooth. Scoop into a glass rimmed with bar sugar.
2. Watermelon Mojito Slushy
Cut into cubes 5 cups of seeded watermelon and place on a baking sheet; Freeze until completely frozen (at least two hours). Place frozen watermelon, 1 cup chilled sparkling water, 3/4 cup white rum, 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint and 1 6-ounce can frozen limeade concentrate (undiluted) in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve in a happily tropical bar glass.

Pour 1 1/4 cups citrus-flavored vodka, 1/2 cup Rose’s lime juice, and 2 cups water in a pitcher and stir until mixed. and 2 cups cranberry juice pour evenly into 4 ice cube trays and freeze at least 4 hours or overnight – the cubes will be slushy, not solid. Before serving, empty the trays in a large bowl and use a fork or potato masher to break up and mix the cubes. Spoon the slush into glasses and serve.
