Very few of us don’t know what a potluck dinner entails.
We get to hang out with a group of people we (hopefully) like and sample all kinds of different delightful dishes. The one drawback of going to a potluck is that you too are generally tasked with coming up with something to serve and no one wants to go to the trouble of making a dinner or lunch and have people hate it. When we cook for a group of people it’s just sort of human nature to want to make sure that the people eating our food are actually enjoying our food. To better facilitate that enjoyment we’ve done you a solid. Without further ado, the top ten ideas for a potluck.
10. Chili
You really can’t go wrong with this particular dish, because you would have to search far and wide in order to find someone who doesn’t like at least a little chili from time to time. If you really want to make sure and keep everyone happy, you can make a couple different varieties, such as turkey chili or bean only chili along with the good old reliable beef chili.
9. Macaroni and Cheese
This is another dish that people of all ages will love. If you want to jazz the dish up you can add something that will make it crunchy, go with a different kind of cheese than normal or you can add a little cayenne pepper to the recipe to give it a real zing.
8. Scalloped Potatoes
This is more of a side dish, but not everyone is going to be bringing a main meal. This is also another recipe that is almost universally loved and like the others on this list is not nearly as hard to make as it first appears.
7. Strawberry and Feta Salad
This recipe will probably surprise some because it seems like something that people wouldn’t see at most potlucks. That is the first positive, the second being that it is incredibly easy to make and really, really tasty. The feta cheese brings out the sweetness of the strawberries quite nicely with the added bonus of being relatively low fat and low calorie so you don’t feel bloated after having a plate.
6. Hamburgers
People often think of pot luck recipes as being casseroles, but there are plenty of dishes like hamburgers and hotdogs at these occasions too. You can simply precook the meat, and then seal it in a nice container that will keep the warmth in. You can bring the buns in a separate container, as well as the toppings and voila!
5. Brownies
The first dessert on this list, but you can really never go wrong with having a container or three of brownies for people to munch on once the main course and the side dishes have been thoroughly picked over.
4. Corn on the Cob
This is another side dish that will make people come back for a second helping. You can grill up the cobs and then seal them in aluminum foil in order to keep them nice and warm throughout the potluck.
3. Pot Roast

You can cook up this all American meal in your crockpot and then just bring the whole works to the potluck. People can spoon however much of the dish they want out for themselves and fill up on great veggies and soft, succulent meat.
2. Apple Pie
Just like the brownies, you will want to make sure that if you go with a desert it is one that almost everyone loves. Every good potluck needs to have a couple of pies and if you go with a pie, you really can’t go wrong with good old fashioned apple pie.
1. Spaghetti and Meatballs

Another great dish for an event like this because so many people look at this as a great comfort food choice. As long as you can keep this dish even a little bit warm you will have a winner on your hands with this idea.
